- Olivia Morgan is my current roommate here in Emory. She is nineteen years old and is currently is a freshman in Emory. Unlike Sejun, she came to college right away without taking a gap year. This actually is a normal process for universities in the States. I had a better chance to talk with her deeply regarding this subject, so I chose her as the second interviewee. I also prepared different questions for her to specify the process of college in the States based on her experience.
1. What did you mostly focus on while preparing for college entrance?
To be honest I have never really focused on college entrance when I was doing something in my high school. I was aware of what I should do to go to college, but all the activities I have done was mainly based on my interest, not focusing on whether or not colleges would like. When writing personal essays, I tried to concentrate on writing something that could well reflect myself.
2. Do you like the way colleges in the States assess the students? How well do you think the student assessment process helps colleges to understand the students?
I think colleges in the States use methods that well reflects students overall. They ask several personal questions about us and I can well express myself answering those questions. Often some schools ask for too much but in general I like the way they assess us and what they want to know about us.
3. How do you like your college so far? Compared to high school, how is the workload in college?
I like Emory pretty much so far. Though the workload is definitely much more than in high school, I feel like I am actually learning relatively deeply something I am interested in.
